ASCE Pipeline Division International Conference

International Pipelines Conference 2008
Atlanta, GA

Pipeline Asset Management:
Maximizing Performance of Our Pipeline Infrastructure
These are not just trendy buzz words - Asset Management, Nessie Curve, Gap Analysis, Affordability Gap, Replacement Burden, Demographic Echo, Condition Assessment, Sustainability, Life Extending Technology, Life Cycle Cost, Cradle to Grave Economics - but rather various twists on bottom line issues that are a call for action to those involved in pipeline engineering. Atlanta’s Omni Hotel at CNN Center will be the venue for the ASCE Pipeline Division International Pipelines Conference 2008. The Conference Steering Committee will choreograph a cast of pipeline engineering and industry experts, both domestic and international, who will prepare and present papers that will play a supporting role in educating attendees on the theme of Pipeline Asset Management: Maximizing Performance of Our Pipeline Infrastructure.

The Technical Program Committee, chaired by Dr. Sanjiv Gokhale from Vanderbilt University, is presently soliciting abstracts and will be receiving them through September 14th, 2007. Abstracts will be selected based on the applicability of the supporting role scripted in the abstract to the theme of the conference and may fall into one of the following categories:

Pipeline Asset Management
Pipeline Durability
Operations and Maintenance
Infrastructure Assessment / Monitoring
Planning
Risk Management
Hydraulic Design
Construction
Design
Specialty
The Conference Steering Committee has cast Atlanta’s Mayor Shirley Franklin as the Primary Speaker for the opening plenary session. Called into action by her election in 2001, Mayor Franklin became the 58th mayor in the history of the City of Atlanta and the first female mayor. With a goal of becoming the “Best in Class, and making some very tough decisions, one of the many accomplishments that Mayor Franklin was responsible for was the initiative to overhaul the City’s aging pipeline assets. Worthy of discussion, Mayor Franklin will address the management of these water and wastewater pipeline assets that are so vital to the City’s prosperity.
The Local Arrangements Committee has planned a potpourri of social functions at exceptional venues, including the special dinner event. CNN, Centennial Olympic Park, The World of Coke, and The Atlanta Aquarium are all within walking distance from the Omni Hotel at CNN Center.
Dr. Tom Iseley and Ralph Carpenter, International Pipelines Conference 2008 Co-Chairs, would like to invite you to attend International Pipelines Conference 2008 in Atlanta. We sincerely hope that you will take this opportunity to participate as a paper presenter, sponsor, exhibitor or attendee. Join us at the BEST conference for Pipeline Engineering.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Atlanta, Georgia, July 22 – 27, 2008.
