Career Prospects
Why choose a career in Civil Engineering?
Singapore is the natural place to pursue a higher degree programme in civil engineering. The country has excellent infrastructures such as the Changi International Airport, the acclaimed Port of Singapore, an integrated transportation systems, the world’s first deep tunnel sewerage system and a high-rise public housing scheme that is second to none. Apart from the rigorous academic programme, students will have first hand experience of the signal contributions of the civil engineering profession to a world class metropolis.
Why choose a career in Environmental Engineering?
As a small country, Singapore faces severe constraints in terms of environmental and water resources while maintaining sustained economic growth. Singapore manages to overcome this by being at the forefront in the application of innovative technologies and strategies, for example in husbanding and developing water resources (e.g. NEWater, desalination, Marina barrage, watershed management and water pricing). The local environmental industry is growing rapidly to address environmental issues in Singapore and the region, particularly in China, and Singapore aims to be a global Hydrohub for the region. Students in the higher degree programmes will be able to acquire the state-of-the-art knowledge for meeting the environmental challenges ahead.
